Geography

Geography Vision

Our intention is that all children at Pennington Infant School will develop a genuine love for Geography promotes a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people that will remain with our learners for the rest of their lives. Our geography curriculum equips pupils with knowledge about diverse places, people, natural and human environments. Our learners will develop a contextual knowledge of the location of globally significant places, including their physical and human characteristics.

The Geography curriculum at Pennington Infant School is implemented in line with the Early years foundation stage and National Curriculum statutory frameworks.

In the Early years we give children opportunities and experiences to first explore skills which will later be built on in KS1. Children will learn about:

  • Locational knowledge (Creating maps of their local area)
  • Place knowledge (Land use maps, Brazil/UK)
  • Human and Physical Geography (Home brochures)
  • Geographical skills and fieldwork.(Creating maps)

The impact of our curriculum is measured so that children at Pennington Infant School finish year 2 feeling confident to talk about their immediate geography and surround areas as well as feeling confident to use maps and identifying human and physical features. Our aim is that the skills learnt in KS1 give children a confident outlook on geography in KS2.
